The Bread & Puddin' of Life

My mother-in-law has raised 6 children and a high-school on her delicious comfort food. My recipe box is made up of recipes from her recipe box! The two recipes my family founders on on a regular basis is her homemade bread and her rice puddin'. It can't be said to be "pudding." Trapper has always had a special place in his belly for "rice puddin'." He would incessantly ask for it and Grandma would deliver!I think as well as it warms his belly, it warms his heart to know that Grandma would take requests with pleasure! I have also tried to keep up with demand. I feel like the best mom in the world when Trapper is almost out of breath with excitement to have his rice puddin' made! Every time I make these recipes, I think of Deb (who I make sound like she is dead, but clearly, she is alive) and how feeding her kids wasn't just a chore...but a love.

Now, am I in the will? All this...I should be. We'll get to that later:) Today as I was making the puddin' I thought how pretty it was and I should make a post about it. As I was posting, my boys were jumping on our new trampoline, my orange couch. My husband teased that it would be played on, more than sat on. Gees, do you have to have a doctorate to be that witty? But he was right, or should I say, his diagnosis was correct? Anywaaaaay, it's a Craigslist special. I love it! But I do have to say I get a superior kick at the entertainment that comes from having it. Right now they are playing a Spiderman/helicopter/gun/pig enactment. So, the orange couch is a multipurpose sitting/playing piece of furniture/playground equipment!

Ok-- is it kosher to mail homeade bread? Wow, I was wiping my drool when I saw the picture! Good for you on the bread and puddin'--it made me miss Debra Lynn! Although, I'd take her cinnamon rolls over the rice puddin any day or any second of the week! loves, Jes

Oh your bread looks absolutely mouth-watering! With lots of butter piping hot from the oven is how my mom would serve hers. The rice pudding however...so very, very wrong. Pudding is supposed to be smooth. Hello? Chunks of rice? Not smooth. And all these years I thought we could stay friends, but alas, you eat rice pudding. :)

I'm digging the orange couch. You are an awesome mom to let your kids jump on it and not freak out...I have many lessons to learn from you..I just wish you lived closer!!!

If you are mailing bread, feel free to send me a loaf too. I can't count the number of times I've said "We use to have...for school lunch and it was so good." Usually people look at me like I am crazy but they didn't know lunch at Piute High! I can not believe Shylee is a teenager and she looks so much like the adorable tow headed girl I remember! Your kids are all so beautiful! Keep pestering Cally to blog for me okay! Enjoy your Ohio adventures as difficult as they may seem at times. Bryce just finished veterinary school at Mississppi State and we have been living in Phoenix, just opposite of your move! We are on our way to Vernal in December, I feel like we are make plans to go skinny dipping in an Alaskan ocean but I know the beautiful seasons will be worth it. The heat is for the birds! Anyway, I LOVED lurking your cute family.

So rude to put up that picture of "Deb's bread" without even putting up the recipe. I'll have to think hard about forgiving you for that. If you give us the recipe, that might hurry things along. :)
