Pearly Whites, Islands and Light

Fisher~ "So, mom, do you brush your teeth a lot?"
Me~ "Yeah, everyday. We're suppose to brush our teeth everyday!"
(Here I think I am making a breakthrough. He has figured out the importance of brushing teeth EVERYDAY!)

Fisher~ "So, you really brush your teeth everyday?"
Me~ "Yep!"
Fisher~ "Then why does your breath smell sooooo bad?"

NICE...He was saying this to me this morning before I even got out of bed. I didn't have the energy to explain "morning breath."

Here's another thing I want to throw at you. So I am Asst Stake Camp Dir. I have been given some freedom to come up with a theme. I have come up with

"Island Of Light."

I have even written a song that goes with it. It talks about not being lost and drifting, finding the strength within yourself, standing firm, being a beacon of light for others. The island signifies standing alone in a world of darkness (the raging sea), and no matter what, keeping the light within in, piercing the darkness....

What do you think? Is the title too vague? I was thinking of a caption under it that is a bit more explanatory.

Any ideas you want to throw my way?

I want it to be an islander theme, tribal necklaces that each "clan" or ward, comes up with, and on and on and on, bringing in Polynesian as well as other islander influences.

What if this was presented to you? What would you think?

Feedback would be wonderful. Mainly 'cause I have awesome friends and family with excellent taste!!! Thank you!

I think your theme is a great idea. And I would so love to hear your song! The title is not too vague, you don't want to have to explain the whole song in the title, otherwise there wouldn't be any point to the song! Have fun with it. I'm sure those girls love you!

I don't think it's too vague either. Like Melissa said, you don't need to explain the song in the title.

We did a tribal theme a few years ago and the girls loved it. You'll have lots of fun. You could also have each ward come up with their own tribal dance and chant. That could be funny. Make the Stake leaders do one too. I'll try to think of more ideas. I think it sounds like you're on the right track. Good luck and have fun!

I love the theme. Not vague at all. The girls will have a great time with the islander stuff. Not long ago I saw a blog where for girls camp they made lighthouses...if your looking for a craft. I'll try and find the sight.

I think this sounds totally awesome! You can do Hawaiian haystacks for dinner and it would be fun to make lava-lavas (the polynesian wrap skirts)All the islanders wear them--guys and girls. Lex will love that I'm telling everyone this on the blog but he still has one from his mish that he wraps up in from time. :) They are basically sarongs. You could get white fabric and tie-dye them or you could just buy islandy fabric and fringe and bead them at the bottom. They are totally cute and so comfy. They just tie in a know at the top. Lex's is mid-calf so it's good and modest. :) I love the necklace idea too. You could do some cool stuff with totem poles. Like competitions where the winning tribes get a piece to stack on the pole for each game won or the most friendly camp or the cleanest camp or a block for a service project done at camp etc. then at the end of camp the tribe with the tallest totem wins a bag of snickers or something etc. Or paint your own blocks to create a totem pole that represents your own self (likes, talents, goals etc.) and stack them up and glue them together for a little self-totem pole. This theme really puts things WAY wide open. You could do fruit smoothie night and have a 'smoothie bar' like a salad bar where the girls create their own smooties with fruits, yogurts, juices etc. Of course you'd have to find some of the little umbrellas to stick in the top of them (check oriental trading company for those...super cheap). If you have a few good braiders you could braid each others hair in tons of tiny braids and put beads on the ends of all the braids. I love those little island girls on the beaches that beg to braid tourists hair for a little cash. So cute. Hmmm, I think I will just keep on thinking about this. So many fun directions to go. Your song will be awesome, they always are. love you tons, jes
